Biography

Josie Smoot is an industry-recognized marketing and communications leader, with over two decades of experience in IT sales and marketing to the public sector and healthcare verticals. She is a passionate storyteller and builder of brands that speak to business outcomes and values. Josie is currently the Sr. Director of US Public Sector Marketing at Zscaler, where she was hired in 2021 to build the team and go-to-market strategy for Zscaler’s US Government Solutions entity in addition to the SLED and healthcare segments across the Americas.

Prior to Zscaler, Josie spent 11 years at Iron Bow Technologies, with the last 5 years heading the marketing and communications department responsible for the overall GTM strategy for the company. She was responsible for the rebranding effort of Iron Bow Technologies in 2010 as it separated from its parent company and helped position the newly formed organization to become a recognized leader in the GovCon market with over $1 billion in revenue. Preceding Iron Bow, Josie held various roles in marketing, including partner/alliance marketing, product marketing, and sales at Apptis and Unicom (formerly GTSI Corp).

Her work has been recognized by Cisco as Marketing Innovator of the Year, by Government Marketing University as a previous GAINER award recipient and nominee, and most recently as one of the top 25 MarCom Leaders to Watch by Washington Exec.

Josie holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and a Minor in Human Resource Development from James Madison University. She is passionate about helping others find their strengths and purpose and currently serves on the board for the Women’s Center in McLean. She has also held an advisory seat on the board for the Women of Prince George’s County for numerous years and has served on several marketing advisory councils of leading technology companies such as Cisco, Dell EMC, and Palo Alto Networks.
