Scott Stanzel

Stanzel leads the corporate communications function, overseeing internal and external communications strategy and execution for Truist. Since joining Truist in October of 2022, Stanzel has reimagined the communications structure and has led communications on key issues including enterprise organizational transformation, the financial turmoil in March 2023, the sale of Truist Insurance Holdings, and the advancement of the Truist Purpose. Stanzel brings decades of corporate communications, public sector, and leadership experience. Prior to his time at Truist, Stanzel served as managing vice president for corporate communications at Capital One Financial Corporation. Before joining Capital One, he served in communications roles at Amazon and Microsoft. Previously, Stanzel served as deputy White House press secretary during the George W. Bush administration.

A native of agricultural life in Iowa, Stanzel is passionate about serving his alma mater of Iowa State University. He has been chairman of the Iowa State University Alumni Association and served on the Advisory Council for ISU’s Greenlee School of Journalism, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications.

Stanzel and his wife have three daughters. When he is not working, he enjoys running and participating in endurance races. Stanzel is a three-time finisher of Ironman triathlon races and has completed nine marathons.
