Biography

Mary Linnell-Simmons is the Peace Corps’ Marketing Lead, bringing 15 years of experience in cause-based marketing communications as well as passion for human rights and equity. In this role, she manages the Peace Corp’s efforts to promote the agency’s opportunities to future Volunteers.

Prior to joining the Peace Corps, Mary was the Director of Marketing and External Relations at Fairtrade America, championing the ethical production of goods like chocolate and coffee. She was proud to see the demand for Fairtrade certified products grow during her seven years marketing of the organization, resulting in a 400% increase in US retail sales and an almost 50% increase in consumer awareness. Mary has served on the boards of local chapters for the American Marketing Association, the Chartered Institute of Fundraising, and City Garden, a DC-based food cooperative.

Mary specializes in growing capacity and awareness in mission-driven organizations. Prior to 2014, she worked with a variety of non-profits in the United Kingdom, including contemporary arts festivals, homelessness organizations, and youth training programs. Mary holds a BA Honours in Communications and Business from the University of Liverpool, England. She has been interviewed by Forbes, Bloomberg, the BBC, Africa54, Allure, and Livestrong amongst other outlets.
